Why Roost & Roam?
Roost & Roam is all about making the most of your time off while also appreciating what’s on your doorstep. Whether that’s a weekend staycation in Somerset, a scenic road trip through Europe, or squeezing in a sunshine escape around school holidays and annual leave allowances.
You’ll find unique stays, hidden gems, Sunday strolls and plenty of foodie finds, from independent bakeries to roast dinners that are genuinely worth loosening your jeans for.
I share honest travel guides, practical itineraries and realistic adventures for people balancing travel with everyday life, work and family.
The “Roost” side of my blog covers all things UK (mostly Somerset and the South West), while “Roam” is where you’ll find our overseas adventures and bigger trips beyond Blighty.
A bit about me…
I work full-time in an office, which means you won’t find any nomad lifestyle content over here. Instead our adventures are fitted around school calendars, annual leave allowances and the painfully overpriced reality of travelling during the school holidays.
When I’m not saving or planning for the next trip, I’m usually trying to counterbalance office life by getting outside for a walk and upping the step count after sitting at a desk all week. I’m a big believer in getting your “blues and greens” in, whether that’s coastal walks, woodland wanders or simply a bit of fresh air after a long day. I always feel better after lacing up my walking boots and getting outside.

We love UK staycations that ooze character. Treehouses, shepherd’s huts, cosy cabins and beautifully renovated cottages are always high up on our list.
Alongside UK escapes, you’ll also find family holidays, cruises, European city breaks, scenic road trips, theme parks, romantic weekends away and plenty of walks and days out around the South West and further afield.
I’m definitely not someone who can spend an entire holiday on a sun lounger with my Kindle. I love getting out and seeing wherever we are, wandering around pretty towns and cities, finding independent coffee shops, trying local food and discovering fun things to do along the way.
We’re not budget, nor are we full-on luxury either. We sit somewhere comfortably in between and everything shared here is honest, realistic and written with busy families and working life in mind.
Life lately…
I’m mum to two boys who are growing up far too quickly (we’re firmly in the pre-teen era now) and engaged to my amazing fiancé James, who got down on one knee at Diamond Beach during our Iceland road trip.
I still have absolutely no idea where to start with wedding planning, but I have a strong suspicion it won’t involve white chair covers or matching bridesmaid dresses, but it may involve travel.
Over the last few years, blogging has also opened the door to working with some brilliant brands and publications, including Jet2, Very and Somerset Life magazine, which still feels a little surreal considering this all started as a hobby and somewhere to share my photography and creativity.
