Gift buying for the outdoorsy women in your life can sometimes be a testing task. Especially when they cherish new experiences and making memories above anything materialistic. Which can either leave you racking your brain for ideas, or result in another year of gifting a box of chocolates and bouquet of flowers. No shade, both of those are lovely presents.
But if you want to gift something a little more curated this year, why not treat her to something that will level up her next hiking adventure, or do something to create some special memories together instead?
Whether you’re on a pinched budget or ready to splurge it all on your special someone. There’s something on this hiker gift guide for everyone.
With that said, here’s a list of gifts that I believe any avid hiker would be excited to unwrap! Whether that be birthdays, Christmas, Valentines or any other upcoming celebratory occasion!
In this article...
1. Hiking themed card
Before we get underway with the presents, let’s begin with a card; as that’s the polite order to do things isn’t it.
Start strong and show you’ve made extra effort by swerving the generic cutesy teddy bear supermarket cards. Instead, opt for something better suited, like a hiking, wild swimming or outdoorsy themed card from somewhere like Etsy or Thortful.
This simple switch shows that you’ve really poured some thought into the card, and not left it as a last minute dash to the supermarket. Or worse yet; the petrol station down the road Tut tut.
2. Bum bag
No. We haven’t time travelled back to the 90’s!
Bum-bags are back with a bang, trend setting yet again.
Whether it’s for a touch of nostalgia or simply practicality, bum-bags are the perfect addition for shorter summer hikes and sunny afternoon strolls. (I say summer hikes, as she may be lacking in pockets without a jacket in all that glorious sunshine)
Although small, a bum-bag provides enough space to hold your phone, keys and perhaps even an Oreo protein bar (because they are the best)
Basically, all the essentials you need to bring on casual strolls and short hikes.
3. Portable wine bottle for boozy hikes
Sunset hikes just got a whole lot better with this collapsable bottle. (Ok, so it’s actually made for water, but it lists wine as an option!)
Reward yourself with a celebratory toast at the summit, ready to soak in those breath-taking mountain sunset views with a little tipple together.
The built in carabiner clip makes it easy to clip onto your bag, and you simply roll it up once it’s empty.
Go easy though, or perhaps switch it for some zero-alcohol wine. After-all, you’ve still got to make it all the way back down safely!
4. Book a cabin in the wilderness
Visiting new places to make memories together will forever be my favourite type of gift.
If your budget allows, why not push the boat out and treat her to a night (or two) away at a cosy wooden cabin or maybe even a shepherds hut in the wilderness? Like this gem in North Wales, which provided the perfect base for our hike up Mount Snowdon.
We’re talking shooting stars, bubbling hot tub, dining alfresco and cuddling up together In-front of the roaring fire for a romantic weekend away.
Both Airbnb or booking are great places to find somewhere super special and unique. From ‘tiny homes’ to fancy barn renovations, there will be something to suit your style, location and budget.

5. Treat her to a new coat
New hiking gear will always be a welcomed gift.
What does she need? A warm insulated coat for chilly climates like Finland or a lightweight rain coat to protect her from the elements?
Think hard. Perhaps she’s made this easy for you, and has subtly mentioned a coat that’s on her wish list!
There are so many fabulous coat options to suit a variety of budgets. If you need some inspiration though; my newest coat is the Hikesteller Jacket from The North Face. (Read my review of it here)
It’s flattering and comfortable. But most importantly; it kept me nice and dry in Iceland where the weather wasn’t afraid to flex its muscles.
6. Portable stove
Are you planning a magical early morning beach trip or mountain hike to catch an epic sun rise? If so, a little portable stove, like this one, could be a winner!
We could have done with one of these at the summit of Pen y Fan, as it was freezing and all covered in a layer of ice.
Thankfully these don’t take up much space or add much weight to your backpack. However, they do provide a welcomed hot drink to help warm your bones, whilst you wait in anticipation for those golden rays to appear.
Its the perfect gift for any self-proclaimed tea worshiper.
7. Quick dry travel towel
Quick drying travel towels are such a useful present for anyone who loves a bit of wild swimming or splashing in the sea. This Dock & Bay towel packs down small, dries rapidly, and comes in loads of colours. On top of that; it repels sand! So you don’t have to bring half the beach home with you!
What’s not to love? Learn more about it here.
8. AllTrails+ subscription
Ok, so you can’t physically tear off the paper and unwrap this gift. But its still a good one!
AllTrails+ gives you access to thousands of different walking routes and notifies you when you’ve made a wrong turn. Preventing you from ever getting lost again. Nifty!
All of these handy features are available offline (unlike the free version) when you upgrade to the paid AllTrails+ annual subscription. Giving you the chance to explore over 400 thousand curated trails anywhere and everywhere. Near or far, the world is your oyster with an AllTrails subscription.
9. Scratch off travel map
Here’s a nice idea for the sentimental hiker.
You can get beautiful scratch off travel maps for all over the world, a particular country, or even a destination bucket list.
So whether you’re wanting to tick (or should I say scratch) off lots of holiday destinations, or some scenic walks in the UK. This is a lovely interactive piece of artwork for the walls in your home.
10. Action camera
Enable her to capture all those action packed moments from holiday with a fun action camera.
We have the Insta360 x3 camera set and it’s a great bit of kit. Small enough to fit in your pocket and comes with some unique editing options like the 360 globe effect.
It would be the perfect companion for snorkelling in the sea, rock climbing or zooming down an adrenaline fuelled zip line like this twin zip-line over a disused quarry in Cornwall.
11. Smart band
Help her keep track of all those steps she’s raked up on long walks, and track her sleep too with a smart watch.
This one is much cheaper than an Apple watch or Fitbit, and its packed with loads of cool features too. Plus you can buy different coloured straps to style it with multiple outfits.
12. Book a tree top adventure
Go-Ape have 36 outdoor activity centres dotted all across the UK and each one is unique.
Booking a fun tree-top adventure makes for an exhilarating day out together. Clamber around in the trees and face your fear of heights with a challenging course high up in the tree tops.

13. Chilly’s coffee cup
These make such a great (and useful) gift, I use mine every single day! Whether that be at work, or out on a walk at the weekend.
Chilly’s insulated coffee cups work really well at keeping your hot drink warm for hours.
They have 2 versions for sale at the moment; the original and series 2. Both have pro’s and cons, so to see the differences between the two, check out my review.
14. Sports bra
Underwear is a classic gift, especially for valentines!
Yes, ok it’s usually a silky or lacey little number. But perhaps get her something practical this time instead?
A comfortable and supportive sports bra will be greatly appreciated when you’re next out on a long hike together.
15. Backpack
Perhaps not quite as desirable as a designer Hermes or Radley bag, but a good backpack will be much more useful when it comes to walking.
Look for something big enough to hold all your hiking essentials, with comfortable padded shoulder straps and a hip belt would be a bonus! Like this one.
Depending on your climate you might also want to find one that’s waterproof or comes with a waterproof cover.
16. Walking shoes
Having the right walking shoes or walking boots not only provides traction and grip for challenging scrambles, but they makes a huge difference to the comfort of your feet on a long hike.
Look for ones that have a waterproof and breathable gore-tex layer, ankle support and grippy soles.
The Adidas Terrex are my personal fave. They look stylish, come in fun untraditional colours and have heaps of grip on the continental rubber soles. If you’re interested to know more, you can read my review here.
Or for something extra fun and colourful, the Adidas Free Hiker 2 look fabulous! They are on my wish list for some summer hiking shoes!
17. Flower book
Flowers will forever make a gorgeous gift. But I like the idea of putting a slight spin on this classic present, and it will last longer than a week.
Instead of gifting a beautiful bouquet of blooms, perhaps consider gifting a wild flower guide book instead? That way she can learn all about the wild flowers she encounters throughout the seasons on all her hikes and adventures.
18. Try something new
Experiencing something new is always fun, especially when it involves a bit of adrenaline and competitiveness between you. How about booking a paddle boarding session, going for a horse ride or taking a ride down a wild forest rollercoaster?
You’ll make some brilliant memories and have some fun stories to share with family and friends when you get home.
19. Power bank
An essential item that always comes in handy.
Anker make some fab power banks. So much so, that I seem to have a gained a mini collection of them!
This slim compact one is my newest addition and it’s a great item to keep in your bag. Now she will never run out of battery or miss out on snapping some epic scenic photos ever again.
20. Instax Camera
Retro and fun; Instax cameras capture the moment and print it out there and then.
Meaning you’ll have the photo in the palm of your hand in a matter of minutes. Rather than them spending an eternity stuck inside your phones camera roll.
Perfect for sticking in scrapbooks, pinning on cork-boards or popping inside mini frames around your home.
They come in 5 pretty colours and the replacement film is easy to repurchase on amazon.
Time to wrap it up
There we have it: 20 great gift ideas for the special hiker or outdoors loving lady in your life.
I hope this has provided you with some ideas and inspiration to treat her to something she will really love. So you can let the flowers and chocolate take a back seat this year.
Now it’s over to you to do a good job with the gift wrapping. Or just go for the paperless option, and get the Alltraills subscription!
