Aptly named The Wizards Cauldron, this cosy stay feels as-though you’ve actually stepped foot into Hagrid’s very own octagonal hut at Hogwarts.
Every inch is stuffed full of charm, transporting you right into the wizarding world of Harry Potter. Theres bird cages hanging from the ceiling with mischievous Cornish pixies locked inside. Butterbeer bottles on the shelf, green floo powder on the mantle and just endless themed knick-knacks throughout the entire property. So much so, that you could spend days in here and still unearth new things.
If you love all things Harry Potter, or you know someone who’s a dedicated Potter fan. Then you really need to spend at least one night inside the enchanting Wizards Cauldron and be fully immersed into the wonderful world of Harry Potter.
Just a quick word of warning before I begin sharing more details about this spellbinding place; this post will include spoilers for some of the magical items you’ll find at The Wizards Cauldron. Let’s just say you may want to brush up on some spells before you arrive…

In this article...
Where is The Wizards Cauldron in Cornwall?
The Wizards Cauldron is located in a small Cornish village called Lewannick, which is roughly a 30 minute broomstick ride from the historic town of Bodmin. The location is a tad remote and will involve driving along some single track country lanes – but only for a short distance. We crossed a small ford to get to it (coming from the Eden Project) However, if you come in from the A30 then it’s only a brief 10 minute drive down a quiet single track lane. It’s well sign posted and very straight forward to find, plus the hosts provide easy to understand directions should you need an extra helping hand.
The Wizards Cauldron is tucked behind the hosts farm house which feels private and secluded. I loved waking up to the peaceful sound of birds chirping in the trees, rather than the monotonous drone of cars driving past. Theres plenty of free parking right out the front too, so theres no need to worry about finding a parking space or having to lug your belongings far.

Dreaming in the main Bedroom
The Wizards cauldron has a separate bedroom thats dressed head-to-toe in Harry Potter memorabilia. The boys shrieked when they walked in and spotted The Monster Book of Monsters lurking under the bed, and I loved how the main wallpaper in here matches the family tree that you see in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix.

There’s a nod to Dolores Umbridge in here too thanks to the pink bows, kitten plates and newly created Educational Decrees that are hung on the walls. Dumbledores Army list can be found hidden behind the door, while Dobbie sits next to a selection of wands including Voldemort’s creepy white bone looking wand. That really is just scratching the surface though, theres a great deal more to see in here, including an entire cabinet full of trinkets, letters and potion bottles.

Enough about this rooms incredible theming though, I could spend an entire day listing it all. Lets move onto the practicalities. Most importantly, the king size bed in here is super comfortable, so you can expect a great nights sleep whilst you’re away. Which is exactly what you need after a busy day of site seeing around beautiful Cornwall. There’s also a stand to pop your suitcase on, but not much space to unpack (if you wanted to during a longer stay) as there’s only really a couple small drawers in the bedside tables.

A bathroom fit for wizards
The bathroom is an ensuite, which stays cohesive with the rest of the place. We loved the crystal goblet which is used to give Dumbledore the Potion of Despair, and all the various framed newspaper cut-outs. The corner shower had a powerful rainfall shower along with a smaller shower head, and the water was plentiful and hot. The hosts provided shampoo and body wash inside a handy wall dispenser which was helpful as we forgot to bring some. The only slight fault we found was that the shower door didn’t fully close, which did cause water to spray out and soak the bathroom floor, but it was nothing a quick mop up couldn’t fix!

Cooking up a potion in the kitchenette
The front door of The Wizards Cauldron leads you straight into the small kitchenette. All the walls have been wrapped in a stone patterned wallpaper, and the low window had a colourful stained-glass effect sticker. There’s a Harry Potter themed tea towel hanging from the kitchen cabinet, cute mini cauldron salt and pepper shakers sit on the side and a selection of teas, coffees, hot chocolate sachets and biscuits were displayed in a mini Harry Potter leather style suitcase – such a fun touch.

As for cooking, there is a large microwave which also works as an air-fryer. We popped a few frozen pizza’s in and it worked perfectly for an easy-no-hassle dinner! To help save space in this tiny kitchen there’s a pack-away electric stove, which you can remove from the cupboard and place on the kitchen countertop to plug in and use. Theres also an under-counter fridge with cool box and a small kettle and two-slice toaster on the worktop.

The carved rock style sink really added to the theme of this room, although as it’s small and shallow its not the easiest to wash up in. For a short break away it’s absolutely fine and suits the space much better than a larger, more practice option would.
Plenty of cooking equipment, cutlery and utensils had been provided, and all the mugs were on point too.

Watching Harry Potter in Hagrid’s living room
This particular room is just like being in Hagrid’s home with all the cages hanging from the ceiling, and the dragon egg carefully nestled inside the black cauldron. The walls are covered in the same stone wallpaper as the kitchen and theres a small dining table in here with 3 chairs along with a wooden bench and a sofa bed which is big enough to either sleep two children or one adult.

It’s in here where you’ll find the TV and DVD player, along with the great selection of boardgames. Theres endless fun discoveries to find in here too, like the spiders that crawl up the walls and the Mandrake’s that sit on the shelves.
The electric fire can be turned on for heating or just for the flame effect alone, enabling you to enjoy that cosy feeling all year round, even in the height of summer.

Entertainment options for Muggles
If the British weather lets you down and wrecks your plans to explore Cornwall, don’t worry. There’s so much to keep you occupied inside The Wizards Cauldron. Obviously the hosts have the complete collection of Harry Potter books and films on hand, and it goes without saying that snuggling up and having a movie marathon in Hagrid’s lounge is a memorable experience!

There’s loads of different Harry Potter games too, from wizards chess to Uno and Monopoly, with enough choice to keep all ages busy. Not forgetting all the fun you (or your kids) can have by playing dress up in one of the Hogwarts house robes and wands. Or simply taking time to soak in the hosts dedication to everything thats been thoughtfully displayed throughout The Wizards Cauldron. It’s mind-blowing, and must have taken so long to create this magnificent space.

Extra magical things at the Wizards Cauldron
Hopefully my photos help to show how the entire holiday home is full of special and thoughtful touches. But there are some that take creating magic to the next level, for example;
The floating candles in the bedroom
The floating candles suspended from the bedroom ceiling actually light up and flicker like a real flame. Whats better though, is that these can be magically switched on using the two wands resting on the bedside tables. To feel like a true wizard, make sure you say the LUMOS spell as you wave the wands at the candles.

The sorting hat
This was such a fun addition to The Wizards Cauldron. We sat on the wooden bench in Hagrid’s lounge and took it in turns to place the brown talking sorting hat on our heads. Then it was a nervous wait to discover which house we were destined for. Yes – it actually talks!

Play dress up
Open up the Borgin & Burkes wardrobe in the bedroom to find an entire wardrobe stuffed full of various Hogwarts dress up and wizarding gear! There’s a brilliant selection of scarfs, ties, accessories and house robes in there. We had such a laugh dressing up in them with our boys. They loved it!

Harry Potter’s invisibility cloak
Also inside the wardrobe you’ll find Harry’s Cloak of Invisibility. Make sure you take a peek inside The Wizards Cauldron welcome book to find out how to use it properly. Then you’ll be set to create some brilliantly entertaining videos with it.

An outside area that’s perfect for flying broomsticks
There’s a private lawned area out the front of the Wizards Cauldron, with some outdoor seating and a BBQ. You’re also welcome to go and sit by the hosts own pond, which would be perfect on a pretty summers evening.
Personally, we just had fun out here snapping some flying photos with the boys. I bet this place looks extra witchy in the autumn, especially when the stack of pumpkins are surrounded by fiery fallen leaves.

Are dogs allowed to stay?
Yes, well behaved dogs are allowed to stay and join in on the wizarding fun. There’s even a dog poo bin in the garden to help you keep it all nice and tidy ready for the next guests to arrive.
Meeting the hosts of The Wizards Cauldron
The hosts Lucy and Stewart were so welcoming and reassured us that they were right on hand if we needed any help during our stay. We met them both on arrival (but don’t worry, if you’re surprising someone – they don’t give anything away) We also got to see them briefly when we left, which was great as we were able to let them know how much we enjoyed our stay here.
We booked our stay on booking.com and before arrival, Lucy & Stewart sent a message to see whether we wanted dairy or oat milk left in the fridge. They also asked if it was anyones birthday as they could hang a birthday banner up for us. Sadly it wasn’t, but this was super thoughtful and a nice touch for anyone who is coming here to celebrate completing another lap around the sun.

Fun things to do nearby
Cornwall is full of wonderful places to explore, from beautiful Cornish gardens to white sandy beaches and hidden waterfalls. On this trip we visited The famous biomes at the Eden project which is roughly 40 minutes away, along with the haunted tales of the Bodmin Jail Attraction which is 25 minutes away. If you’re after more of a thrill, then Adrenaline Quarry is only 30 minutes away and has a super fun 50 meter high twin zip-line.
How to book The Wizards Cauldron
We managed to book one night here to surprise the boys during the school Easter holidays, but from their calendar it looks like it gets pretty booked up throughout the year.
Prices vary from £175- £215 per night, depending on the time of the year, but click here to check what’s available.

Magical conclusion
The Wizards Cauldron is like stepping straight into the pages of the books or a scene from the films, and a must do for all Harry Potter fans. I loved how immersive the hosts have made this overnight experience, from the floating candles you can control with a wand, to the real life invisibility cloak! Theres hidden magical details tucked into every nook of this hut.
It’s a perfect themed stay for all witches and wizards, even the most diehard Potterheads would be totally spellbound to have a break away here. Plus it’s in a great location to explore many areas of Cornwall.
